Houston Selena fan mocks her killer with viral car message
Lex Entwistle and his wife recently came across a message mocking Selena Quintanilla's killer Yolanda Saldivar while driving in Houston.
Nearly 30 years after her death, fans of Selena Quintanilla still feel strongly about the woman who murdered her. While out house hunting in Houston with his wife on Sept. 23, Lex Entwistle came across a car with an amusing message on its back window in honor of the iconic Queen of Tejano Music.
"Happy Hispanic Heritage Month to everyone! Except Yolanda Saldivar! Booo!!!" read the text scribbled in white paint. Saldivar, 63, was convicted of first-degree murder for killing Quintanilla in 1995. She was sentenced to life in prison and will be eligible for parole in March 2025. Big fans of Quintanilla, Entwistle and his wife raised their phones and snapped photos of the car while waiting at a stoplight at Kirby Drive and University Boulevard near Joseph A. Bank.
"I wanted to take the picture because I thought a lot more people would share the sentiment," Entwistle said. "The message is funny but also based in truth, many people still identify Yolanda Saldivar as a real-life villain."

After posting the image on Facebook, Entwistle said it slowly took off, garnering less than 50 shares in its first few days and jumping to 5,000 shares on the sixth day. "Friends started tagging me where other pages had shared the picture and posted it themselves," Entwistle said. "I was surprised that the post took so long to take off relative to other posts." One of those pages was Carrollton City Limits and Surrounding Cities, where the photo got over 134,000 likes and 29,000 shares.
The post even landed Entwistle an interview with the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express. Entwistle said he and a lot of people identify with Quintanilla's "rag to riches" story. "From playing with her family when she was very young to becoming an absolute musical and cultural icon, she was incredible," he said. "People who know her music and know her story know that she didn't deserve what happened to her. She had a lot more to offer the world musically and as an individual."
